Tips for Employee Benefits Professionals, Episode 1, Improving Productivity and Morale in the Workplace
September, 2018
This month Legal Club launched a new video series for Employee Benefits Professionals titled "Making the World Safe for Voluntary Benefits, Tips for Employee Benefits Professionals"
In the first installment of "Making the World Safe for Voluntary Benefits," Legal Club's Vice President of Employee Benefits, Donald Rowe, talks about absence management and presenteeism and how Group Legal and Identity Theft Plans can be used to help reduce the occurrences of these situations.
While these plans will not prevent the flu from sweeping through an office, they do help address people's everyday problems that can otherwise be distractions in the workplace. In the video, Donald cites statistics from Patricia Shaeffer's article, The Hidden Costs of Presenteeism, Causes and Solutions. In this article, she refers to a study on the topic indicating that while a typical employee averages four sick days per year, time lost while on the job due to presenteeism - being on the job but not focused on the job - added up to a whopping 57.5 days per employee per year.
The video explains a couple of examples of how Group Legal and Identity Theft Plans from Legal Club can help reduce presenteeism using the fictional characters Susan and Peter:
Susan, who works at one of your employer groups is thinking about the changes that she needs to make to her will because she recently had a life status change. Or maybe she's going through a tough time financially and worried about having a bankruptcy. Or maybe both. Her employer can provide access to a Group Legal Plan that provides employees with access to real life solutions, for real life problems, in real time that Susan can take advantage of. As a plan member, Legal Club's network of attorneys would be working on Susan's behalf, helping alleviate many of her concerns in a cost effective and timely manner so that she can remain focused on her job while at work. And if Susan happened to have a tax issue, Legal Club programs come with a Tax component as well.
Peter, who works at another one of your employer groups has been a victim of identity theft. Statics show that it can take hundreds, if not thousands, of hours to recover from identity theft without professional assistance. And much of that time will need to be during business hours, when the banks are open. Peter will be busy using his employer's copy and fax machines and on the phone for hours trying to get his identity back to normal. If Peter's employer has an Identity Theft Plan from Legal Club that Peter has enrolled in, he can use all this company time more productively while Legal Club's Identity Theft Professionals, part of the plan's Full Service Restoration component, restore his identity to its pre-theft state.
Additionally, when these programs are in place, not only does it help with absence management and presenteeism, but it also helps to build morale, and there's no question that happier workers are more productive workers.
